We wanted to establish the provenance on individual rollers to enable us to tell the story of the wallpaper each was designed to print. This proved to be extremely difficult and we were disappointed with the results from our research. Some of the rollers have detail on them, including design numbers, but most have little that help identify them.
However, we realised we were becoming engrossed with the detail rather than the bigger picture. Our story celebrates the skilled workmanship to create the rollers and to give these unsung heroes a renewed glory! It became clear that the collection as a whole was the only story we needed to tell.
For a more personal feel and to help identify the patterns, we decided to name each individual roller. Recently, we changed some of our design names to suit the area in which Parable is based and therefore gave them some of the beautiful place names in Devon and Cornwall.
